Kumbhalgarh
Fort in Kumbhalgarh, was built by Maharana Kumbha in the 15th
century. This is the second most important fort in Rajasthan
after the Chittaurgarh Fort. Kumbhalgarh Fort is perched on the
Aravallis and this otherwise inaccessible fort can only be
reached by jeep from Kelwara after crossing the seven great
gates.
Apart from the Badal Mahal or the 'Cloud Palace', which gives a
scenic view of the city, there are temples of great antiquity and
interest.
Six kilometers from the fort is the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary. The
sanctuary is famous for its fauna such as the Wolf, Leopard,
Jackal and a variety of birds. The sanctuary protects some of the
rare species struggling for survival. This palce is equally
famous for its archaeological value. The fort is 84 kms and the
sanctuary is 90 kms from the city.
